Everyone wants but not everyone needs. Everyone wishes they had more but not everyone has nothing. We all go without…but do we? According to the Hunger in America 2010 study, 1 in 8 Americans relies on assistance from the Feeding America Network to survive. The average monthly income for client households is $940 and 10% of client households are homeless. Tragically, the number of children Feeding America serves has increased 50% since 2006. And it is not getting any better. Our local area has been especially hurt by the current economy and we outpace the national averages published by the Hunger in America 2010 study in almost every category. Let’s work together to reverse this trend and stop hunger in its tracks. For as little as $20 (the cost of a pizza night at home) we can offer a family enough food for more than a week. Every. St. Mary’s Choice Food Pantry is organized and run entirely by volunteers and we could use your help! PANTRY HELP (before and during the pantry hours) Carry Out Assistant Data Entry Personal Shopping Assistant Grocery Bagger Can’t make it to the actual Pantry?? (Usually the 4th Monday of the month) No problem, there are plenty of opportunities to serve throughout the month: PREP (Sunday before the pantry @ 11:00 am) Help to stock the pantry shelves FOOD DELIVERY Unload the food delivery truck every second Thursday at 8:00am Unload the food delivery truck on Pantry Day at 1:30pm. (Usually the 4th Monday) FOOD & TOILETRIES DRIVE / FUNDRAISERS Organize and run a canned food/toiletries drive in your local area to benefit the Pantry. As with most charitable organizations, we are ALWAYS looking for ways to sustain and grow the assistance we offer our clients. Unfortunately, that requires funds. Our overhead costs are minimal and we have no paid employees so each dollar raised and donated gets quickly returned to the community. We would gratefully accept an offer to fundraise together. GROUP PROJECTS We are always happy to team with local organizations (Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts/etc.) to form long term relationships that offer people the opportunity to grow and develop through the joy of serving others. The St. Mary’s Choice Food Pantry is a non-profit food pantry, in connection with Faith Feeders Hot Meal Program, that provides a monthly allowance of groceries and toiletries to those in need, as well as a hot meal. Initially opening our doors in 2005 to serve 50 low income families, the pantry currently offers assistance to over 1000 individuals monthly and the need is ever growing. Because our organization is staffed and run entirely by volunteers, every single penny of our operating budget goes directly into the surrounding low income community through services offered. We strive to provide a sense of dignity and respect to those we serve. To that end, we have designed our pantry to operate similar to a grocery store, allowing customers to select their own food from our pantry shelves. This provides a feeling of normalcy to our guests while cutting waste from unwanted or unneeded food. In addition to monthly grocery/toiletries allotments, we also provide additional assistance in the form of diapers and formula to our guests with children, when the resources are available. We also provide holiday meals complete with all of the fixings to our guests at Thanksgiving, so that they may spend precious time with their loved ones without the worry of how to provide.
